Expedition GeForce Soundtrack

Reimagining the Sound of a Legend

Expedition GeForce inspired Concept Art

Unlike Sky Scream, Expedition GeForce was already a well-established icon when I decided to create a soundtrack for it. Opened in 2001, it had long been the park’s flagship attraction—consistently ranked among the top steel roller coasters in the world. While the theming was minimal, the adventurous tone and jungle expedition setting sparked a lot of creative ideas for me.

There was already an official soundtrack by composer Christian Englert, and out of respect, I reached out to him to ask if I could build upon his original theme. He generously agreed, and this laid the foundation for a new musical exploration—one that aimed to expand on the existing identity while deepening the sense of adventure.

A Soundtrack in Eight Parts

For this project, I composed eight unique tracks, each tied to a specific moment, character, or atmosphere related to the ride:

  • Opening – A bold and cinematic introduction that acts as the main theme for the entire experience.
  • Expedition – A rhythmic, forward-driving track that sets the tone for beginning an epic journey.
  • Base Camp – Written for the area and plaza surrounding the attraction, this track reinforces the feeling of preparing for a wild expedition.
  • Dr. Mike Sanders – A fun tribute to the fictional character whose voice used to give safety instructions in the station, imagined here as a musical character piece.
  • G-Force – The most powerful and intense of the tracks, capturing the physical and emotional forces of the ride experience.
  • Lifthill – A carefully timed piece designed to play in sync with the ride’s climb up the iconic lifthill, building tension toward the breathtaking first drop.
  • Air-Time – A triumphant, uplifting theme celebrating one of the most beloved sensations on the ride.
  • Rock ’n’ GeForce – A tongue-in-cheek nod to the fact that staff often played rock music in the station, despite the existence of an official soundtrack.

As with my previous project, I composed everything in FL Studio, using ProjectSAM’s Symphobia orchestral libraries to achieve a cinematic quality that blends film-score textures with theme park atmosphere.

How the Music Was Used In The Park

Interestingly, my soundtrack did end up being used in the park—but this time without any direct communication or approval. That said, I was happy to hear it playing in the area and plaza, even if it wasn’t exactly how I intended it.

The ride’s station and lifthill continued to feature radio-style music, largely due to a sponsorship deal with German radio station BigFM, which prevented a more immersive musical experience.

A Perfectly Timed Memory

Despite the compromises, there was one truly unforgettable moment. Through contact with a group of passionate park fans—some of whom worked at Holiday Park—I was given a chance to experience the Lifthill track exactly as I had imagined it.

I boarded the front seat of Expedition GeForce, and as the train climbed the lift, the Lifthill track was timed to play in perfect sync. Just as the music reached its dramatic climax, we crested the top—and plunged down the first drop with the final note echoing behind us. It was an incredible, cinematic moment, and one of my favorite memories tied to this project.
