Airshow '71 Soundtrack
Music for an Aerial Playground

When Holiday Park opened the Airshow ‘71 area in 2016, it marked yet another step toward immersive, themed experiences. What had once been a simple, unthemed section of the park was reimagined as a retro airshow straight out of the 1970s. With planes, vibrant signage, and a playful flying motif, the area was designed to appeal especially to families and kids.
As soon as I saw the concept art, I was hooked. The idea of an old-school flying circus, paired with the bright, cheerful design of the new attractions, inspired me to jump in and write music once again—this time with a lighter, more nuanced approach.
Musical Style
Unlike my darker or more adventurous projects for Sky Scream and Expedition GeForce, the Airshow ‘71 soundtrack had to feel lighter and more cheerful. To reflect this, I leaned heavily on woodwinds and string instruments for the more playful rides, while also working in brass and electric guitar chords for a 70s-inspired, uplifting vibe—especially where the action ramps up.
As with the other projects, all tracks were composed in FL Studio using orchestral libraries like ProjectSAM’s Symphobia.
Usage in the Park
Just like with Expedition GeForce, my Airshow ‘71 soundtrack ended up playing in the park—though once again, it happened without formal approval or coordination. Regardless, hearing the music loop through the area was a rewarding moment, especially for this project, which I feel is the most nuanced and advanced of the three soundtracks I created for Holiday Park.
It’s a small joy to know that something I created—first just for the fun of it—found its way into the world it was inspired by.
Track Breakdown
I composed five unique tracks, each tailored to one of the attractions in the area:
-
Airshow ‘71 (Main Theme) – This track sets the overall tone for the area. It begins with an energetic, upbeat theme and transitions into a calmer part with layered wind sound effects to evoke the sensation of flight.
-
Balloon Race – A calm, relaxing piece for the gently rotating balloon carousel. This one features traditional guitar and strings, matching the laid-back motion of the ride.
-
Sky Fly – The area’s headline attraction lets riders pivot their individual wings and even invert. For this, I went with a more epic, cinematic sound, adding brass for drama and a splash of electric guitar as a nod to the 70s vibe.
-
Red Baron – A small carousel themed after the iconic biplane design, meant for the youngest visitors. The music here is playful and lighthearted, featuring music box sounds and whimsical melodies.
-
Wellenflug – A classic swing carousel gets a soundtrack that mixes uplifting motifs with joyful, flight-inspired themes.
